NABP/AACP District IV meeting

Wayne State University hosted the 73rd annual meeting of the NABP/AACP District IV meeting on November 8-10, 2006 at the Athenium in downtown Detroit. The program explored a range of topics including the new ACPE accreditation standards, assuring competency of new graduates, continued competency of past graduates and current status of Medicare Part D. Congratulations to District Secretary Doug Miller and the rest of the organizing committee (Dave Bach, Geralynn Smith, Rich Lucarotti, Dave Edwards) for putting together an excellent meeting.

2006 Pharmacy Fall Symposium a Success!

Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2006 WSU Pharmacy Fall Symposium a resounding success. We had more than 160 registrants who were treated to an outstanding series of lectures on current trends in the treatment of infectious diseases. Professor Miller receives EACPHS Excellence in Teaching Award

Congratulations to Dr. Doug Miller who is the recipient of the 2006 EACPHS Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Miller is primarily responsible for the Patient Care Lab sequence in the first 2 years of the pharmacy curriculum. Congratulations Doug!

Excellence in Research Award

Congratulations to Professor Linda Jaber who is the recipient of the 2006 Excellence in Research Award from the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation of Michigan. Dr. Jaber received this award for her work examining the epidemiology of diabetes in Arab-Americans. The award consists of an unrestricted research grant in the amount of $10,000.

AFPE Scholarship

P3 student Nicole Pinelli has been awarded one of 12 scholarships from the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education. Nicki will be working on the project "Neurohormonal Inhibition of Atrial Fibrillation" under the supervision of Assistant Professor James Kalus.
